In a historic win, Indian actress Anasuya Sengupta from Kolkata clinched the Un Certain Regard Prize for Best Actress for her role in “The Shameless.” Directed and written by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov, the film tells the story of Renuka, portrayed by Anasuya, who flees a Delhi brothel after killing a police officer. The film also features Omara Shetty as Renuka’s love interest. Anasuya’s achievement marks the first time an Indian actor has won this award.

In an interview with The Kolkata, Anasuya shared her exhilaration upon learning that “The Shameless” was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. She recounted, “I received the news when Konstantin sent me a link to the press conference announcing the Cannes official selections. When our film’s name was announced, I jumped out of the chair with ecstasy!”
